The Department of Dental Technology in West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University is the birthplace of dental technology in China. It’s the first institute in China to provide graduate-level dental technician education. As a department in West China School of Stomatology, our mission is to contribute to the dental technology curriculum of the school, collaborate on clinical practice in the dental hospital, perform scientific research on fixed partial denture, removable partial denture, complete denture, as well as digital prosthodontics. Our department has contributed to the development and innovation of the Chinese dental technology industry.

Clinic
The equipment in our department includes the latest digital tools such as intraoral scanners, lab scanner, 3D facial scanner, jaw motion tracking system, 3D printer, milling machine, and dental computer-aided design software. With the solid professional skills of our faculty members, our department provides patient-centered multidisciplinary care for complex rehabilitation cases, and customized prosthetic treatments. The outcome and efficiency of prosthetic treatment were also strongly promoted with the aid of faculty experts.

Education
Our department has been leading undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral dental technology education in China. We provide the “Dual Degree Innovation Experimental Class on Dental Digital Technology” education program, which is based on the collaboration with the School of Software at Sichuan University. The department also has international cooperation programs such as the Sino-Japanese joint undergraduate training program with Osaka Dental University and the postgraduate joint training program with the Queen Mary University of London. National and international education resources have cultivated a group of experts with an international vision and innovative consciousness of dental technology.

Research
The department has been conducting research on esthetic dentistry, fully digital full mouth occlusion rehabilitation, dental material properties and improvements. The department has applied for several patents and published numerous peer-reviewed research papers. Funded by plenty of scientific research projects, sustainable scientific research and innovation were guaranteed, offering the department the leading place in the dental technology field.
