As one of the top oral and maxillofacial surgery outpatient departments in mainland China and a National Key Discipline, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, boasts core strengths in clinical practice, especially in diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial diseases, dental education, and scientific research related to oral and maxillofacial surgery. The department has several well-known experts and professors, including 6 professors, 4 associate professors, and 7 attending physicians.

Clinic
Experts and supervised postgraduate students of the department offer patients diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial trauma, infections, tumors, vascular malformations and hemangiomas, prosoplasia, temporomandibular joint diseases. Nowadays, the department provides patients with the best oral and alveolar bone surgery, such as tooth extraction, dental implant treatment, and electrocardiographic monitoring of dental alveolus surgery. The latest technologies, like piezo surgery, endoscope, temporomandibular joint injection,hyperthermia,microwave thermos-chemotherapy,and microwave thermocoagulation, are used to provide better treatment experience and results.

Education
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the higher training center for oral and maxillofacial surgeons in China. As the training base for the standardized training of residents and senior doctors, the department trains more than 300 people every year. The department also provides free continuing education programs for community-oriented dental surgeons. We aim to graduate students with advanced clinical skills, a solid scientific foundation, and a broad vision of oral health.

Research
The main research interests of the department include maxillofacial bone biology, biomechanics and biological mechanism underlying temporomandibular joint diseases, tetrahedral DNA nanostructure-delivering medicine for tissue engineering, and osteo-inductive biomaterials for maxillofacial bone defects. In the past 5 years, more than 10 research grants with a total amount of 10 million RMB from the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Science and Technology of China have been granted. More than 200 papers have been published in international and national peer-reviewed journals.
