Department of Prosthodontics I
The Department of Prosthodontics I of West China Hospital of Stomatology, is the descendant of the first specialty for prosthodontics in China and one part of the National Key Clinical Specialty, with core strength in clinical practice, dental education, and scientific research, and with main focus on restoration of defected teeth, partial edentulous jaw, and edentulous arch. In addition, the department was one of the first to reward Master’s and Doctoral degrees and postdoctoral training in the field of prosthodontics in China.
Faculty
The department has a high-level academic team with 17 dentists, currently including 7 professors (4 are PhD tutors), 5 associate professors and 5 lecturers. 94% of the faculty members in the department possess PhD degrees, and 76% have overseas study experience. In addition, there are 2 executive members, 2 committee members and 1 youth member of the professional Committee of Prosthodontics of Chinese Stomatology Association and 12 members of International Association Dental Research.
Clinic
The department specializes in fixed prosthodontics and minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry (MICD), and the applied prosthodontic technique and materials are at par with the world advanced level. The department takes the lead in various featured clinical techniques: 1) restoration of defected teeth; 2) restoration of partial edentulous jaws and edentulous arches; 3) minimally invasive esthetic prostheses; 4) non-molar tooth bleaching, ultra-thin veneer restoration; and 5) the latest advanced imaging technologies (such as CAD/CAM, 3D printing, intraoral scanning, 3D facial scanning…). Following the principle of "people-oriented and patient-centered", the department provides high-quality dental healthcare services and endeavors to restore healthy and confident smiles for the public.
Education
The Department of Prosthodontics is one of the highest training centers of prosthodontics specialty in China. Our education emphasizes on developing training programs for undergraduates, postgraduates, residents and practicing dentists in fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, implant dentistry, and maxillofacial prosthetics. We aim to train students with advanced clinical skills, solid scientific basis and a broad vision in oral health-care. We are committed to providing high quality predoctoral and postgraduate education programs. Academic and residency programs are also offered here.
Research
The research goal of the department is to develop and convey new approaches to science, dentistry and medicine that will ultimately result in improved patient care and quality of life. The main research interests of the department range from dental materials, dental implant therapy, nanotechnology, bone regeneration, tissue engineering, to patient-centered outcome study, etc. Funded by a plenty of projects, research carried out by the faculty members is consistent and innovative, with a leading place in the prosthodontics field. A large number of clinical and scientific publications are produced each year. We have successfully developed a series of innovations with patents such as a novel apparatus affording implants with hydrophilicity, demonstrating far-reaching and extensive influence globally and domestically.

Department of Prosthodontics II
Department of Prosthodontics II in West China Hospital of Stomatology Sichuan University as the first prosthodontics department established in China, is one of the first key national clinical specialties and characterized by providing high-tech prosthetic technology. Here, we are dedicated to integrating clinical practice, dental education and scientific research so that students, residents and postdoctoral fellows can be fully instructed. In the department, we have 35 dental chairs and a large and strong professional team, including 10 professors, 8 associate professors and 9 lecturers.
Clinic
Faculty members and their students under supervision and guidance in the Department of Prosthodontics II provide the patients with varieties of high-tech prosthodontic treatments, such as esthetic prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, implant prosthesis, complete dentures, occlusal reconstruction for severe dentition attrition, oral maxillofacial prosthesis and prosthetic treatment for food impaction, and so forth. Our department leads the world in the field of minimally invasive cosmetic restorative dentistry, precise implant treatment in aesthetics area, microscopic prosthodontics, digital removable partial denture, full-mouth functional rehabilitation, and digital occlusion design.
Education
Department of Prosthodontics II is the higher training center of prosthodontic specialty in China, with multi-leveled educational programs for students, residents, postdoctoral fellows and clinical trainees. We aim to provide quality predoctoral and postgraduate education programs. Our programs and training involve the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, esthetics, and health of patients with missing teeth, deficient teeth, or compromised maxillofacial tissues. Well-trained graduates are expected to take a leadership role in advancing patient-oriented challenges that present and future dentistry faces.
Research
The breadth of our research interests pertains to the mechanical and biological studies in connection with dental materials, implant therapy, aging, bone regeneration, craniofacial growth and development as well as clinical studies in nanotechnology, high-tech prosthodontic diagnosis and treatments approach, etc. A large number of clinical and scientific publications with the leading place in the prosthodontic field are generated each year. And more than 20 NSFC projects have been awarded to the faculty in the Department of Prosthodontics II. The aim of these researches is to develop new approaches to clinic and science that will ultimately improve treatment effect, patient care and their quality of life.
