The Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, is the first department in Southwest China that combines characteristic therapies of traditional Chinese medicine with oral diseases. The department combines scientific research, teaching, clinical practice, and systematically organizes oral diseases based on TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment, concept of holism, and treatment in accordance with three categories of etiologic factors. The relationship between the viscera and meridians is a unique specialty therapy for oral mucosal diseases, temporomandibular joint disorders and other diseases by combining internal and external use of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and other treatment methods.
Clinic
Doctors and nurses in our department mainly carry out the following treatment methods according to different oral diseases under the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
1. Chinese herb of internal and external treatment
The external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine is based on the differentiation of the zangfu-organs, combined with the different conditions in terms of locality, time, and persons involved, and the use of different Chinese herbs compatibility for different patient conditions, giving ‘decoction, pill, powder’ orally, hydropathic compress, hot ironing, and fog inhalation therapy.
2. Acupuncture and Moxibustion Treatment
Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is a treatment method with the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, which can dredge the meridians, regulate the viscera and achieve the therapeutic effect through the syndrome differentiation of meridians, determine the etiology and pathogenesis, select specific acupoints, combine the corresponding acupuncture technology and cooperate with the method of moxibustion.
3. Acupoint Autohemotherapy
Autohemotherapy is a treatment method that draws a small amount of venous blood from the patient's own body and immediately injects it into the acupoints, which continuously stimulates the acupoints, plays a role in regulating the meridian points, and produces specific immune effects.
4. Chinese Herb Ultrasonic Atomization
Oral Chinese herb ultrasonic atomization treatment is a treatment method that combines traditional Chinese herb with modern administration methods according to the lesion of oral mucosa, and the traditional Chinese herb decoction is administered by ultrasonic atomization to directly act on oral mucosa.
Education
The Department of Stomatology of traditional Chinese medicine is a newly established discipline, which mainly carries out the teaching of basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine in stomatological colleges.
Research
At present, our department mainly undertakes two provincial projects and two hospital topics, chief editor, one clinical diagnosis and treatment standard, one undergraduate planning textbook and four monographs.
