Overview
The Department of Trauma and Plastic Surgery has been one of the world's leading centers in the field of oral and maxillofacial trauma. The Department is made up of a team of academic surgeons who are committed to excellence in clinical care services, education and scientific research.
Clinic
The scope of clinical care services includes the management of oral and maxillofacial injuries; the repair/reconstruction of craniofacial posttraumatic malformation; the available services for the treatment of facial or jaw infections.
In 2012, the Department announced the establishment of Craniomaxillofacial Digital Surgical Center, which was the first digital surgical center in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgery in China. Since then, Digital visualization (including visual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality), surgical navigation, digital surgical guide, and 3D printing techniques have been used both in clinical care and education. With the development and the use of various new techniques, as well as with the idea of using the traditional methods creatively, it becomes possible to apply the state-of-the-art reconstruction technique to restore optimal maxillofacial morphology and function.
Education
In addition to providing the highest quality of patient care in a compassionate way, our mission is to develop a training program for the next generation of surgeons in our specialty and to promote clinical practice through innovation in basic medical advance and clinical research.
Research
1. Craniomaxillofacial digital surgical research: model surgery, medical device research and development, and medical cloud platform services. Leading edge techniques include fine structure reconstruction, virtual occlusion, and fusion of imaging data (CBCT, Spiral CT, face scan data, etc.). The Department has obtained 11 patents, 3 software copyright and 4 medical device registration certificates. Moreover, these research and clinical applications are also benefiting many other local medical institutions via the medical cloud platform we established.
2. The Department is one of the first teams studying adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) in China, and has been systematically working on improving the purification techniques and transplanting strategies of ADSCs. The research also covers the exploration of mechanisms of multi-lineage differentiation aiming towards the regeneration of maxillofacial defects. Recently, the research mainly focuses on adipose tissue-derived exosomes and explores their potential application for scar management and facial rejuvenation.
3. The Department is among the leading teams studying oral and maxillofacial tissue regeneration and repair in the world, especially on tooth development and regeneration. To be specific, research includes dental/non-dental derived stem cells, odontogenic induction microenvironment, dental-pulp regeneration, periodontal regeneration, bio-root construction, tooth root development, and enamel development.
