Prosthodontics is a dental specialty pertaining to repairing of oral and maxillofacial defects, rehabilitation of the oral function, prevention and treatment of oral and maxillofacial diseases using artificial devices. As the core curriculum in dentistry teaching, Prosthodontics is closely associated with Oral Anatomy and Physiology, Dental Biomechanics, Dental Materials and other basic subjects. This course aims to provide dental students with theories and cutting edge of prosthodontics and requires students to master the fundamental treatment principle and technology of prosthodontics, so as to foster their creativity and make them dental specialists with basic knowledge of prosthodontics.
The course Prosthodontics has been offered by West China School of Stomatology Sichuan University since the establishment of West China Union Dental School in 1919. In 1989 it was awarded the only national key subject of Prosthodontics. In 2004, it was the first in the country to be selected as a National Excellent Course by the Ministry of Education of PRC. In 2013, it became a national excellent resource sharing course. In 2014, it was awarded the Second Prize of Teaching Achievement by the Ministry of Education of PRC. In 2023,it was awarded the provincial and national first-class undergraduate course.
