As the earliest orthodontic department established in China, the Department of Orthodontics excels in clinical practice, education, and scientific research related to malocclusions and craniofacial deformities. The Department of Orthodontics benefits from a large and strong professional team, including 12 professors, 24 associate professors, and 15 lecturers. Nowadays, the Department of Orthodontics has 64 dental chairs and advanced equipment such as digital intraoral scanners, 3D cameras, and 3D printers, combined with CBCT examination and digital measurement and analysis systems.

As an important part of stomatology, orthodontics is an independent subject studying the etiology, pathology, examination, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and maxillofacial deformities. It is closely related to oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontics, prevention of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, facial morphology, biomechanics, mechanobiology, and facial aesthetics. Through a variety of orthodontic appliances, orthodontic treatment aims to coordinate relationships among jaw bones, teeth, facial nerves, and muscles. The ultimate goal of orthodontic treatment is to achieve balance, stability, function, and aesthetics of the stomatognathic system. Therefore, the study of orthodontics is of great significance to the prevention and treatment of dento-maxillofacial deformities, and the improvement of oral health, as well as the physical and mental health of the entire population.

The department has inherited and developed a comprehensive system consisting of various orthodontic techniques or treatment approaches.
