IADR 2026 Research Breakthrough Honors West China School of Stomatology ’s Multicenter Caries Prevention Trial
Apr. 02 2026

A multicenter clinical study led by Associate Professor Yin Wei from the Department of Preventive Dentistry, West China School of Stomatology, was selected as one of the eight IADR 2026 "Research Breakthroughs," an honor jointly evaluated by leading journals such as the Journal of Dental Research. The work was also highlighted in the IADR 2025 Annual Report, further underscoring the international impact and academic strength of the school’s clinical research.

This phase III multi-center clinical trial was initiated by our hospital in collaboration with the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the Stomatological Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Colgate-Palmolive (USA). Focusing on the prevention of dental caries in children, the team conducted a two-year intervention and follow-up among 6,000 children. The findings demonstrated that arginine-containing toothpaste is a safe and effective alternative to sodium fluoride toothpaste, providing high-quality, evidence-based support for improving children’s oral health. Since publication, the results have quickly become highly accessed and widely cited, drawing broad attention and recognition from experts and peers worldwide.

In recent years, West China School of Stomatology has regarded clinical research and international collaboration as key drivers for enhancing disciplinary competitiveness. The hospital has continuously increased investment in research funding, strengthened the development of researcher teams, and improved high-level research platforms. By actively fostering partnerships with leading universities and well-known enterprises at home and abroad, the hospital has promoted a series of clinical studies to achieve important breakthroughs.

Building on this achievement, the hospital will continue to focus on the prevention and control of oral diseases and on clinical translational research. It will encourage young scholars to pursue excellence, generate more landmark outcomes with global influence, and contribute to the high-quality development of stomatology and to safeguarding oral health across the entire life course.
