On February 28, 2026, the Ministry of Education released the award list of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2025). Students from West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University (WCSS SCU) achieved outstanding results, winning one national gold and one national silver award.

The gold prize went to the project “Smile Synergy – World's First Intelligent Minimally Invasive Surgical Robot System for Maxillofacial Surgery”, led by doctoral student Hua Yufei (supervisors: Li Chunjie, Guo Zhiyong, Li Yao). The team developed a novel solution combining instruments, procedures, and AI to address key challenges in maxillofacial minimally invasive surgery.

The silver prize was awarded to “Pioneer – Global Leading Precise Navigation System for Hard Tissue Puncture”, led by undergraduate Qiu Yu (supervisors: Tian Taoran, Fu Wei, Cai Xiaoxiao). The team created the world's first distributed visible-light positioning surgical navigation system using AR+AI technology, obtaining the China's first Class III medical device certificate.
