The National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases (West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University) was approved by the National Science and Technology Ministry in 2016. Supported by the hospital's abundant medical resources, National Key Clinical Specialties, and national research platforms, the center is committed to its mission focusing on infrastructure building, resource integration, collaborative innovation, clinical translation, and the promotion of services.
The Center has identified three main research directions: Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Oral Diseases, Maxillofacial Diseases and Functional Reconstruction, Oral Stem Cells and Tissue Regeneration. A series of innovative research achievements have been obtained in the center, which is committed to establishing a national first-class oral disease clinical medical research center through the development of big data and evidence-based research, intelligent medical system, translation medicine, and precision medicine, as well as an internet-based universal preventive and supportive system.
The Center is playing the leading role in the establishment of the Asian Dental Center (ADC), the China Dental Research Laboratory Alliance. The Center has also established a medical linkage network and provided medical assistance to Ningxia, Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunnan, Guizhou, Gan Aliang, and other western ethnic areas. In 2017, the construction promotion meeting of the National Dental Disease Clinical Medical Research Center (West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University) was held successfully, and 40 institute members were recruited to promote the overall progress and development of the level of stomatology. Based on the Western Medical Collaboration Network, the Center has assisted in the promotion of new technologies, new theories, new methods, and new materials in annual academic exchanges and exhibitions and thus accelerates the coordinated development and improvement of dental institutes in western China.
The Center aims at the prevention and control of major diseases, following the application-oriented principle and focusing on the translation of research achievements. The Center has taken responsibility as the "national team", and has set up a collaborative network with other centers to promote health, science, and technology innovation work together.
