The State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, established with approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2007 and officially validated in 2010, holds the distinction of being China's first national key laboratory in the field of oral medicine. In March 2023, the laboratory received approval for its optimization and reorganization plan, marking the beginning of a new development phase. The laboratory operates under the leadership of Professor Ye Ling, Vice President of Sichuan University and Director of West China Medical Center, with Academician Meng Anming of the Chinese Academy of Sciences serving as the Chairman of the Academic Committee. With approximately 150 permanent staff members, the laboratory has cultivated a high-level research team renowned for its innovative contributions to both scientific research and education. Aligned with national strategic priorities, the laboratory focuses on addressing major oral diseases that pose significant threats to both oral and systemic health in the Chinese population. Through nationwide collaborative research efforts, the institution advances cutting-edge work in several key areas, including the prevention and control of oral infectious diseases, maxillofacial diseases and functional reconstruction, and innovations in oral stem cells and tissue regeneration.
